Farrier with Website

I'M A BLACKSMITH, a farrier living in Andalusia and shoeing Purebred Spanish Horses.

blacksmith I'm Andrés Cánovas. I've been a farrier for 36 years, and I spend just about every waking hour with Andalusian Horses. I work with them, and I've owned, trained and ridden for hundreds of hours. My work and my lifelong interest are the same - horses.

I've studied conformation, movement and morphology, learned from others - and in turn, taught what I've learned.

I work in close conjunction with a number of vets specialising in hoof and lameness cases, and focus on being up to date with new technology and discoveries. My work as a farrier gives me amazing opportunities to get into the mind of the horse

MY CLIENT LIST - past & present – includes:

    • International dressage horses
    • International showjumpers
    • International endurance horses – 3 national teams at the World Games, 2002
    • Europe’s champion Arab stud
    • Nationally competing doma vaquera horses
    • Carriage horses – fine and heavy harness
    • Spain’s champion garrocha horses – (see more details under doma vaquera)
    • Yeguada de la Cartuja (Spain’s National stud of Carthusian horses)
    • Senior Riders from Jerez’s Real Escuela de Arte Ecuestre, (Spain’s equivalent to Vienna)
    • Private studs of classic Andalusian horses
    • Mules, donkeys, Przewalskis, - and pretty much anything else with 4 hooves
WHY THE WEBSITE

This is a living record of real life involvement. As a rider and a farrier I've seen a lot of horses – and a lot of hooves. I’ve hit the heights - and the dust - and I’m still learning.

The website is here to provide information to anyone interested in the horses of Andalucia. We're talking about the Purebred Spanish Horses, half-Andalusians, doma vaquera horses. Their tack, their training, their lifestyle - the things I see every day. And of course, what I do in my work as a farrier - horse shoeing, hoof care and and work on lameness cases.

I believe

    • facts give you confidence when you make choices.
    • anybody can own and enjoy an Andalusian Horse.

HORSES for SALE
As I work I'm continually coming across Spanish Horses for sale. Almost all these horses have Spanish speaking owners, with limited access to the English speaking markets.
I'm not a broker or a dealer- I'm a farrier, and that's how I earn my living.

  • I'll be featuring some horses on the site - at no charge to the owners.
  • I'm free to decide which horses I'll carry, and to give my opinion if you ask me.

I’m Josephine..
blacksmith's wife     - the other half of the ‘we’ you’re hearing from in these pages. As a teen I rode competitively and gained BHS qualifications. In my twenties, though, I became very involved in my work - presenting news inserts on National television, and producing documentary films. Horses became a strong second interest.
I love communications and research - solid facts without the fluff.

This is the key element we want the website to give you – simple experiential truth, clearly stated and easily available

We don’t know it all – but we’re happy to share what we do know - & point you to others who are experts in their fields
