Quarter crack horse shoeing
Quarter crack horse shoeing - Good foundations Initially - as in all shoeing - the trimming of the hoof must be done carefully and precisely.
The correct balance
of the hoof and relevant axes must be established and maintained.
Quarter crack horse shoeing - Corrective and Orthopaedic Shoeing
In shoeing for equine quarter cracks, each hoof is shod according to the situation
it presents. Consider
- Severity of the quarter crack
- morphology of the horse
- structure of the individual hoof
Basic strategies for shoeing a horse with a quarter crack can include:

- The hoof wall trimmed away below the crack - removes contact with and
resultant movement/pressure from the shoe.
- A bar shoe - bars on the shoes placed in the optimum position for support and immobilisation of the hoof wall
- Natural balance type shoes to assist in breakover, and reduce pressure on the quarters
- Luwex® pads with support composites (above R) to help in stabilisation
of the hoof wall, weight distribution and support.
